Have you ever flown a drone or quad-copter?

Postby Fergal » 05 Jan 2016, 18:23

I received a really nice Christmas present of a Quark Micro Drone, made by Propel RC. It takes about 20 minutes to charge it and it can then fly for about 4 - 5 minutes. It's good fun to fly it round the house (it's been too windy to take it outside), but my flying skill still needs some improvement.

I've crashed it quite a few times and thankfully it appears quite robust, with no damage done to it yet. For any beginner thinking of buying a drone for the first time, I'd suggest you buy one which has protectors around the propellers. They are really delicate and would most probably get broken quite quickly, by someone like me, if they didn't have the protectors.

I have not flown one myself, but my brother got one for Christmas and posted a video on his Facebook of his virgin flight that lasted all of 2 seconds with lots of yelling and laughing.

I hear those are very fun, I have yet to use one. I have flown a RC copter before though that my boyfriend bought for himself for fun lol. We both crashed it too many times and after that cat attacked it the poor thing broke for good. Apparently we are very bad flyers, as playtime lasted maybe 20 minutes. I do much better controlling a race car or monster truck with a remote.

That's pretty much what it was like with me. I was also worry that I would break it, but after I crashed it a few times I could see that it is fit for at least a little abuse.

I've also tried one a couple of times, it's good fun, but like the drone I need to learn how to fly it properly.

The one I have is really quite small and delicate, don't think you could do much damage with it, even if you tried :)

The first passenger drone has been unveiled at the CES is Las Vegas. It looks very exciting and it might bring forward the day we get to travel round in flying cars. More here at The Guardian.

In our place we use to fly kite and I find it interesting as if I am at the kite as i handle carefully so as not to go down. Now, my interest of flying is lit with your attempt of flying a drone. I have seen this one and it is used during our thanksgiving festivity last year first week of April for a video coverage. I was therefore imagining if I could have one and manage it by myself of the control of flying it. I have search its price, wow, it's too costly. I would just be satisfied of flying a kite for it costs less than a hundred pesos or more or less 3 USD.

I have not flown a drone but GoPro, the cameramaker, will be launching its version of a drone. The name of the drone will be called Karma. I would like to know the features of GoPro's drone.

You can bet they will be featured around aerial photography by remote control.

Haven't tried it but it seems fun - my son would probably ask for something like it when he gets older! I have seen it being used for photography when my sister's wedding photographers took an aerial shot of the wedding venue. Cool gadget to have around!
