Relieve chronic pain with wearable technology

Postby Happyland » 07 Jan 2016, 03:23

Here is another product showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show for 2016. It is called the Quell wearable pain relief device. This device is the latest iteration of Quell that was released at the last CES back in 2015.

Quell is an FDA approved device that is worn on the upper calf. Studies showed that it is effective for relieving pain and can help reduce the use of pain medication. It can help with pain from sciatica, diabetic neuropathy, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, knee injuries, sprains, labor pain and other types of pain.

It works by stimulating nerves. It seems like there are nerves on the upper calf that can signal the brain. This newer version it can be controlled by a smartphone app. It is now not only clinically effective but is now also a technologically innovative wearable pain relieving device for those suffering with chronic pain. It has an extended battery life. You can wear it while exercising and sleeping.

Nice to learn about these new gadgets which can improve our lives. Is this machine similar to a TENS unit?

My keen interest has sparked on this wearable pain reliever. My wife sometimes suffer pain in some parts of her legs and feet. She's already 65 years old. Could this gadget be useful for easing her pain which occasionally attacks her especially when the weather is cold especially late in the evening or early morning?

This is really a boon to the patients who are suffering from diabetics, arthritis and other pains. Since the rate of diabetics is increasing day by day and atheletics may suffer from sprain, while exercising, and labour pains are common among females, it is a gift for them. I am also suffering for knee pain due to knee wornout and i can also buy one .

The device is typically used for pain cause by underlying physical conditions. I think it might be able to address pain exacerbated by temperature extremes. You can wear throughout the day, while sleeping, and excercising. Studies have shown that it is safe and many people have derived a benefit from its use.

Considering the many cases of chronic pain we have currently, this invention is a plus.

It is especially good because it allows people to reduce the intake of pain medication.

I too have read about this invention online though I have not had any personal reviews. I understood one thing clearly that it offers only temporary relief and for long term benefits you would still need tablets.

It is good to know that there is such a thing to help with pain, but I don't believe it is recommending by any physicians yet. My mom is 89 and she is in constant pain. She is on pain medication, and her doctor hasn't mention wearing this technology device to ease her pain.

I hope it is mentioned somewhere in the medical field and by those professional in the field. I will bring this up with my mom's doctor in three weeks when I take her in.

I think not all doctors "believe" on alternative pain relief methods like this. It may also depend on the type of pain your Mom is constantly experiencing - so things like these may not be as effective as medication.

I agree with you about doctors don't believe on alternative medicine! There are so many natural ways to treat illnesses, but if they recommend that, they won't be making money and will be out of business, lol..

As for my mom, she has sciatica, and diabetic neuropathy, which will fit well with this device. We have tried countless methods already, but none lasted long enough. Now, every 6 weeks, we have to take her in to get epidural shot in her back.
