PS4 HDD upgrade

Postby CyberFreak » 16 Feb 2016, 21:20

Has anybody replaced/upgraded the hard drive in a PS4? I have been looking into it (to improve speed and space) and alot of people have seemingly done it with varing degrees of success. If you have, what hard drive did you replace the stock hard drive with? Did you encounter any issues?

It is a SATA drive and although I haven't done a PS4, I have replaced a ton of SATA drives in PC's. From looking at a webpage on this, it does look pretty similar (and simple):

I was actually thinking about swapping it for a SSHD drive and I have seen this drive that does seem to be compatible with the PS4 so it looks like it shouldn't be a problem. I did manage to read alot of posts on forums where people had trouble but it seems like there shouldn't be any/many problems.

I might give it a try in the next month or so.

Do some shopping around, I saw another version of that same drive on a blog post that gave instructions for putting it in a PS4 with a price tag $20 lower than the one you found. It was encased in foil to use as a portable USB drive, but he told how he peeled off the foil and installed it in his PS4 with links to the software needed.
