Kids and Technology

Postby nakitakona » 20 Mar 2016, 05:44

Kids, if they are unattended would do things what is being prohibited for them. Kids by nature are curious and daring. Those smartphones or mobile phones could make and drag them. Those gadgets are used for communication. They are used for searching knowledge and information. And they are also used for their own humiliation, for their utter moral destruction.

So in order for those kids be molded and be guided towards their bright future, parents should have a constant communication with them for not being strict, but to the point that their kids may feel that they are loved and taken cared of.

I think that children should not have phones until they are at an age when they can be responsible with their usage. If they have a phone then they should not have internet access and be used only for communicating via phone not chat or text. I am sure this is a old fashion way of thinking but it is for their own protection.

it is too early to give a phone for the kids as young as 3 years of age . Once they are addicted to it, then it is very difficult to make them de addicted .

I understand the more restrictions, the more rebellions, but I always believe when we tell the children the reasons for the restrictions lovingly and firmly, they will understand.

I am very strict when it comes to technology, not only because of the misuse and addiction, but because it'll affect the child development as well (There are many studies regarding this). I do give my children more access to the computer and phone according to their age, but certainly time is limited and program is chosen by me.

My kid has a communicator because she was once left alone in front of the school without any supervision. They got out earlier and then she had to wait for me. This kind of technology is completely normal to me.

I'm in agreement with you. That said, my kids (ages 7 and 4) each had a tablet until recently. My seven-year-old would get on youtube and watch things she shouldn't watch because her grandmother didn't monitor what she was viewing. A few weeks ago, she started talking about dying and wanting to die. There's no way she got that anywhere than from something she wasn't supposed to see or hear. I think it's especially important to monitor and be strict about what kids are doing on computers, tablets, and phones. Specifically, the younger kids.

I agree! Parents need to put restriction on the usage of all technology gadgets, and they should keep constant monitoring. I saw some parents taking tablet to restaurant and let their kids watched as young as three years old, and they themselves on their phones. It is a sad scene to see when family time is not even family time.

Yes, but the questions of the death and life are usual things that every child needs and has to know. We can't deny them that knowledge.

This is something that this would be given attention. The manifestation of your kid to wanting to die is something to be aware of. So what are you having plan to prevent your kid of doing what she is thinking?

My kids have both their tablet, but I only allow them to use it for an half an hour before dinner, and not everyday. My son, 7 years old, use it to play some games and my daughter, 3 years old, use it to barbie movies, me and my husband, we always confirm what they are doing.
We can not deny that their generation is growing with tecnology, but they also need to play, ride their bikes, play with our dog and cat, help me bake a cake ... there sre so many things they need to do to grow up mentaly healthy, but as I said tecnology is a part of their lives and that's why I let them use it, but with under my control.

it is a good idea for parents to watch what their kids do and get into online. they have ways to block certain content online I think I remember but kids will be kids they will get into things on their own. I remember a bunch of my friends got their hands on a playboy girlie mag some how.

Well, kids are very resourceful when it comes to things they are not allowed. I think it is their nature to be constantly curious and would do the opposite of No.

Technology and kids go well together only under supervision. Often given right and convinving reasons, calms down their curiosity and they don't think of sneaking up on the subject behind your back. A certain amount of liniency won't do any harm as long as it is within kids-zone!

I think if a parent feels the need to give a child a phone they could always go with the less gadget option. A flip phone could work just find for emergencies. At a certain age, teen years I think it is okay for the child to have a phone but parents should still keep an eye out. There are so many apps with no age restrictions and such that are more for adults. I never had a phone for myself. And I never got my first cell phone until I as 25.

You've said it well.

Surveillance can never supplant communication when it comes to kids.

If possible, kids should know why guardians are concerned about the young ones' online activities.

This way, kids are bound to apply parents' standards while vetting online content for suitability.
