Do You Think It Is a Good Idea to Delete Old Email AccountS?

Postby IcyFirefly » 29 Mar 2016, 13:51

I am talking about those old email accounts when we first have internet, I have a few from different ones like AOL, Hotmail, Excite, Yahoo, etc..Yesterday I went through my list and decided to delete many of these accounts. I don't use them anymore, and some of them are gone when the websites were gone. However, I still have a couple on Yahoo.

Do you think it is a good idea to get rid of them?

I honestly don't think it makes a difference. They won't be used any more either way. I don't delete my old e-mail accounts though... I just leave them there.

I always just leave my old e-mail accounts. I don't see any harm in leaving them there. There is always the danger that they will get hacked, I suppose, but that could just as easily happen to the e-mail accounts I am currently using.

My first email account is not even a company anymore. the other email accounts I had I have not used since 2007 so I don't even think they are even active anymore. Now I have a few but only use certain ones for certain things.

I haven't delete any of my old email accounts before, and I don't plan to do so. I have a yahoo and hotmail accounts which I still wish to keep, though I am not using them anymore. I am just thinking they might still be useful, as I might still need a yahoo account or some old friends might still contact us via the old email address.

I have also created several email accounts at those really not famous sites, and now I totally forgot about them at all, so I just don't bother to delete them as well. If I am able to find them out, perhaps I'll just delete them.

I do not delete my old email accounts. I do not even remember what they were or what my passwords to them were. I do not think there is anything wrong with leaving them open. They may even get closed because they are inactive for so long. Not sure though. I did not have too many so I am not worried about it.

I'm not working for the people that have the email account service but if you are still getting mail its taking up space
on some server. if you don't use the account anymore read any old emails and save any info and shut the account down

Yes I think it's best to delete those emails because it has no use in occupying space of you have read them then why keep them not unless it's an inspiring one

I never thought of doing that. Although I don't log in to my old accounts and just remain active on two email addresses.

I have two old email accounts on Yahoo because I was a writer at Yahoo.Voice and they required a Yahoo account. This is one of the reasons why I want to delete them since Yahoo is still well established and spam mail is enormous with them.

Yahoo Voice is now dead so I don't think I should keep my Yahoo account anymore, as I don't want spammers to have space to send their mails.

If you do not use them they get deactivated automatically or perhaps you might have forgotten your password and other security features. I think it is fine to keep them just for the novelty of it.

I think the easiest course is to just forward them to a gmail account you can use to filter them in case anything good shows up.

I guess it is your personal preference.

It doesn't bother me to keep them around. And it is quicker than trying to find the password.

I just leave it alone and let others handle it.

On a serious note, I have articles that I have written several years ago that continue to get hits.

Congratulations with the hits! It is the best feeling isn't it to see the article still getting hits.

In my case though, Yahoo asked us to save our content before they shut it down. I would have loved to see those articles circulating and earn residue income.

I don't delete my old email accounts, I just leave it there because I don't know if I'm going to need it again.
