Is kaspersky still the best antivirus?

Postby Decentlady » 24 Apr 2016, 12:36

Which is the best antivirus? So far, I was using Kaspersky and was quite contended with it but it's expired and need a new one. Any suggestions?

I do 90% of my Internet access from a Linux Computer set up for that purpose, so I have no anti-virus or malware protection to slow my computer down. If anything did go wrong (which it hasn't for five years), in 15 minutes I can scrub the hard drive and reinstall it.

Sounds like a good idea! Thanks for sharing.

You are most welcome. I share that tip every time I can, because I have been there and done that too many times myself.

Using Linux or a Mac is one way of getting around the problem. If you're sticking with Windows, I would suggest Avast - it has had very good reviews, even for the free version. If I want to guarantee fast internet browsing, then I'll boot up my laptop with Linux. I often use Puppy Linux, running from a USB stick. This is a very small OS, which can run entirely in RAM, helping to keep the speed up.

When I still have my Window laptop, I use Avast. It does the job just fine, but it also depends on what type of activities you are using the internet for. If you are working as ads clicking, you're very vulnerable to get all kinds of craps from those.

Unless you use Linux like @oldbuddy said!

The best antivius for me is ESET nod32. I find it better than Kaspersky. I've used both and Kaspersky slowed down my computer. It's not free, but you can use the trial as many times as you want. I do recommend getting a subscription though. They're really good and have never given my computer any problems.

Speaking from experience, I'd say Kaspersky is a good bet.

I've been using it since 2010 with no major regrets.

Please note that Kaspersky can sometimes be a real pain especially if you install outdated editions.

I once bought a previous year's edition only for it to take more than a month to fully update its databases.

This is nevertheless the only misgiving I've had with Kaspersky.

I used Kaspersky once because it was the default antivirus used by my company and found it OK. It's not the best since it still needs help from other anti-spyware and cleaner tools to fully clean your system but does a decent job.
