Well windows 10 is cool and elegant, so that could be a good option for you if you want to keep all your programs and files. Or you can install a fresh copy of windows 7.

It sounds like you are experiencing hardware problems and they are not going to be resolved by upgrading the software. If fact if your computer is old enough, Windows 10 may not even be able to run there.

I think @oldbuddy has it right - there could well be hardware problems on your machine. It might be worth trying Windows 10, as it is possible to uninstall and revert to W7 if you don't like it. I would suggest replacing your hard drive though - obviously you can "clone" your current drive and take it from there.

I clone my hard drive once a month just in case. If anything blows up, I can be back online in minutes.

Honestly, after nearly a year of using Windows 10, I would say that you should keep Windows 7 if you are happy using it. Windows 10 adds very few new features and even has some annoying interface changes and the like. The only reasons to upgrade to Windows 10 are enhanced multi-monitor support and DirectX 12, really.

I have Windows 10 now and I would say keep Windows 7 if you can. I like it better than 10 even though 10 isn't bad. I wouldn't have upgraded from 7 to 10, but I had 8 (which was pretty bad) so I made the upgrade.

I have not really used Windows 7 but I am using Windows 10 and haven't had any issues since the upgrade and get on well with it. I do use Start 10 to make it a bit more like the Windows of old.

I upgraded my laptop from Windows 8 to Windows 10 and I really like it. My laptop uses a Canon iP2600 Printer and it works fine with Windows 10.

However, my desktop went from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and my Lexmark Printer will not upgrade to Windows 10 and my Flight Simulator 2004 will not work on Windows 10.

I just returned from Walmart with a new wireless printer and will replace the printer for the desktop. I am sort of happy with this because I will be able to print from my Ipads and mobile devices with a wireless printers.

I am old school and always would rather try and repair something instead of replacing it. In computers, that is usually a mistake unless you understand and know how to maintain operating systems.

I am content with Windows 10. Do I like replacing the printer. No, it is an extra expense I would not like to spend. Do I like it that my Flight Simulator will not work? No but I can live with it.

So while Windows 10 was forced on me, I don't think I will go back to Windows 7. I may, however, purchase a Mac one of these days but in all honesty I like the, and am use to, the Windows environment.

Oldfriend

P.S.> Talk about saying a lot to say nothing. Sorry
