dead laptop touchpad - please help

Postby germainebull » 10 May 2016, 13:34

I have this 5+ year old Compaq 610 laptop.

Recently, the touchpad died.

I've sought for remedies all over the internet in vain.

Can someone please help me understand and resolve this issue.

BTW, I'm using Windows 7.

If the touchpad is dead the best option is to have a new laptop I don't know if the pad can be replaced it's just as good as buying a new one

The simple solution is to plug in a USB Mouse or Touchpad and it should work fine.

Since age is no longer creeping up on me, but rushing in like an NFL ball carrier on 4th down from the 1 yard line. it's very simple.

I like Oldbuddy's idea. I actually prefer using my usb mouse on my laptop over the touchpad and never have issues. If you don't have one maybe you can borrow or buy one fairly cheap. Did you look in the device manager as well to make sure it is present?

If it's dead, then there's not much you can do. You can have it repaired, but it'd be much cheaper to get a cheap mouse and just use that.

Thanks chikitta , oldbuddy , WorkAtHomeGal , and kataomoi for the gracious heads up.

You have helped me to clarify some gray issues.

I now know what to do.

I was thinking along the line of doing a system restore, but I might be wrong. I don't have this problem with the touch pad with my 7 years old laptop, just the overheating problem.

@oldbuddy has a great tip! Invest in a USA mouse or touchpad sounds like a fantastic way and affordable one to go if your laptop still works!
