How safe is Dropbox?

Postby Decentlady » 12 May 2016, 11:48

I have been having Dropbox as an option on my cell for years but never really dared to use it. I wonder about safety of my personal documents. How safe is Dropbox storage?

I have used Dropbox for a long time now and I have not had any problems with my personal documents or information. I think it is trustworthy and will keep on using it myself.

Dropbox uses the same encryption as commercial banks. I would say that your data is perfectly safe on Dropbox except in the case of user error like sharing something with the wrong person.

Everyone is trying to be safe, but sometimes we leave security holes and if someone finds them out, they can access everyone's file. However, they know when it happens and most of the time, only the account credentials gets taken, like username, password, etc.

This can happen to everyone and has happened to banks, Google, Adobe, 000webhost and more.

If you want to protect your files on Dropbox, Google Drive, etc., simply zip it with a password.

Its reassuring to get a positive review from a fellow DropBox user.

I too have been using Dropbox since 2011 but I've not had issues concerning data security.

Lets hope the situation will remain.

I also have the same fear with Cloud storage, so I don't put anything important there. I prefer to be safe and use either thumb drive or portable hard drive. I know most of the time it is safe to use drop box, google drive and cloud; plus using a password is always a must for me.

I don't use Dropbox, but my husband use it a lot. Basically Dropbox uses the internet to keep your files, any time we send our data anywhere on the internet, you’re assuming risk. What’s more, it’s stored on a central computer that we have no control over. This requires that we trust in the company to treat our data properly. And of course we can use a password to acess our files.
