Turn Your Old Laptop Into Usable One Again

Postby IcyFirefly » 16 May 2016, 12:17

I am not sure how many people are aware that there is a new way to make those old laptops working like new again, but if you are interested, here is a short video from Wall Street Journal that you can see for yourself:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/9IDresoYZpE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

My daughter gave me her old HP Netbook, which runs Window XP, which is no longer supported by Microsoft, and I am thinking of using CloudReady to turn it into a Chromium OS. However, this too, doesn't support Window XP.

Here is a detailed article:

Check this link to see if your old laptop is supported: https://docs.google.com/document/u/0/d/ ... TethF0/pub

What do you think about doing this?

Seems to be a good idea. However, when I clicked the link you provided, what I got is "Page not found". :(

You can also run Linux on many old laptop machines. I've been running it on a 10-year-old Sony machine which has a dead battery, but is running fine apart from that.

If you want to try the "CloudReady" software, it's available on this site:

you can install many lite linux distros on old laptops and PCs and they'll work fine. I am also using linux mint in one of my old desktops. Its working smoothly.

This is really a good idea of turning our dead and old laptop into a new one. My friend has an old and dead laptop which he sold it to the old news paper wala for Rs.10 . Had i known this idea earlier, i could have helped him to change his old laptop into new and usable one.

My nephew installed Linux Mint on my old laptop, but it works fine, except for the overheating problem. I need to have the fans replaced, but the computer repair shops around here are not trustworthy. I still have to find one.

As for CloudReady, I wish they can make it compatible with my Window XP, and I would do this in a heart beat. My daughter HP NetBook is still in a fantastic condition, and I hate the idea of not being able to put it into good use.
