My question is pretty straightforward. I want to know if, by any chance, a third party can gain access to the documents I've uploaded on Google docs.

In case of breach of privacy, do I have a chance of successfully prosecuting Google and perhaps obtaining damages payment?

I guess to gain access to your Google document, the person must somehow knows your password. Anything can be hacked into, and it is a fear that I have using cloud storage.

I can't fathom the idea of suing Google, and it probably can be done with a great lawyer and money for the process.

For what reason do you think that?

Haven't you heard of identity threft? Banks account got hacked into, stolen credit card numbers without having the actual physical form? Email accounts got hacked, Twitter accounts got hacked?

I have been online too long, and these have happened. It is just a common knowledge in today world.

I believe everything is private unless you make the document available to the public or you give permission to someone to access the document. As long as you make it so only you can view it, no one can see your documents.
