hash tag (#) online utility

Postby germainebull » 07 Jun 2016, 15:44

I've been wondering; would placing a hashtag (#) before a word/phrase/sentence enhance the visibility of such word/phrase/sentence to search engines?

I'll appreciate your informative responses.

I'm not sure, @germainebull, but I'm sure we'll soon find out. I've heard something along those lines, though. I'm also curious to know. I have to say I got sick of people abusing use of the hashtag over here. I doubt even they knew its purpose. I mean, they were even including it in speech. Just annoying!

@angie10 I hear you loud and clear. I think when people first started using it that it was a little bit overboard. I mean why say it. It does not have the same affect when you say it.

@germainebull I have only started using them on FB and Twitter to share my blog posts and I think that it will help with being found on search engines too. If a person types the same word that has a hashtag then that article or whatever should be in the list. At least this is my knowledge of it. Hopefully, someone with more knowledge will give us the proper answer.

I see. Thanks for your enlightening post. I'm sure that, with more probing, we'll arrive at a better understanding of what purpose hashtags serve in the online environment.

The hashtag (#) was created to make it easier for for users to find messages with a specific theme or content. The using of hashtags started in 2007 when twiteer users begun using the # sign in front of words or phrases to create groups within Twitter and two years later Twitter began hyperlinking all hashtags in tweets.

When someone clicks on a hashtag on a social network, they’ll automatically be shown all other public posts that include the same hashtag. This is an easy way to categorize subjects, conversations, etc.

Take a look at https://www.hashtags.org if you would like to learn more about it.

As for me I find the hastags quite useful as a marketeer :).

@darkthorn Thanks for all the info on hashtags. I thought it was something along those lines but could not say it as clearly as you have. It is a relatively new thing for me. I guess I am a bit behind the times. Lol.
