Back in college, I used to hear that, for one to fly an aircraft, he/she needs to have mastery of mathematics.
I want to know: Is this the actual case?
If, so what math operations does one carry out while flying an aircraft?

Also the laws of aerodynamics are based on physics and maths and hence the pilot needs to know and understand their application used to fly an aircraft .

Interesting.
But ... Isn't flying primarily handled by machines, with the pilot merely being a 'machine operator'?
When/how/where does a pilot apply math principles while flying an aircraft?
