Postby germainebull » 28 Jun 2016, 09:18

Has anyone here tried any of the free online programming courses that are being offered by MIT?

What's your experience?

Can you give the link please? I'd like to take a look. Do they give certifications after completion?

I'm interested in learning programming.
I want to begin with the most basic course.

This is the link to this course: ocw.mit.edu/

I love learning new things I can use (often immediately), but at 77 I am not looking for a career changing education with certification or a degree of any kind.

Even I am interested as far learning is concerned although it won't be of any use for my job related qualifications at this age. I would love to do a course if I have that option open for me.

No problem. There is also Udemy, where you can learn lots of different programming languages, some courses are paid but some are free too, you can find many coupons too. Also I've seen many youtube channels that teach programming languages for free. Do search around...

I haven't tried MIT, but I did try to learn a few computer languages for free at codecademy. You won't learn everything you have to know to write a full program, but you'll learn important stuff to give you a good foundation should you decide to pursue a programming course.

Thanks for mentioning codeacademy.
Being a novice at programming, I'll definitely try this out.

So, how are you progressing with your programming quest?

Its good you've mentioned this site.
Together with the suggestion by germainebull, I guess those novices can enter the world of programming with confidence.
