That was true in the last decade, but it has come a LONG WAY toward being newbie friendly. It's much easier to install (if you avoid the geeks) and there are desktop versions you can try without even installing them (such as Puppy Linux).
I think anyone who spends much time online should at least try it, they just may find that Myth has been shattered. They also may discover that it's more comfortable when you don't need to worry about catching the next virus or having your computer hijacked by spyware.

I see.
I did't know that Linux offers more protection against online threats.
Thanks for sharing this bit

This student was always alert while in the computer lab.

Being on a computer is a complete waste of time. Those are the most common misconceptions that I've seen.
remnant wrote:These myths about computers have to do with ignorance and failure by individuals to undergo a paradigm shift as far as their assessment of digital reality is concerned. I am a practising Christian and whenever I quote something biblical or true but extraordinary from the internet some people dismiss it offhand insinuating that the internet is an illicit place full of lies and scams. There is also this prevalent belief not to invest or work online because the internet will crush. There two words 'crush' and 'scam' form the basic tenets of myths about computers.

I am one of those people who believe that formatting would remove viruses AND also improve performance of the computer!Nice to know from your post that there are other options too, so looking forward to know more about those. My computer is becoming real slow day by day although I have plenty of memory remaining and the OS is Windows 8.1 Pro!
