Do you Torrent?

Postby shamzblueworld » 05 Jul 2016, 07:30

Do you download stuff from torrent? Or do you upload too? What do you think of the platform? Is it illegal at your place? Do you think it should be allowed or banned?

Earlier i have used torrent to download movies, many years back. But such downloads invite a lot of unwanted software and virus as well. So, I keep distance from all such download tools. Instead I watch movies online whenever I get time.

I used to torrent movies and dramas. Of course after downloading, I would also seed for others. I don't do it any more now because direct download is way more faster and more convenient. Plus I now live in a country that's super strict about torrenting. If I torrent here, I can get kicked out of the country and possibly arrested.

Regarding whether torrent downloads/uploads should be banned, I don't have a straightforward answer.
This issue would be effectively addressed if one considers whether any copyright violations are involved.

I never have used Torrent sites, since most of the content is in violation of copyright and people receive huge fines or have equipment confiscated as a result of using them. It's not worth the risk when I can get all vhe TV episodes and movies I have time to watch from Netflix and $10 a month is cheaper than buying the popcorn that is manditory to have nearby to watch them.

I downloaded 2-3 movies for the first time from utorrent during summer vacation. But I found it is very slow and takes a long time to download movies. So I have stopped doing that. I am also quite apprehensive about the various softwares programmes that get downloaded along with the movies. So I am keeping away from them now!

I think it is an illegal thing to do, and if they catch you, there would be a huge fine, jail time or both. It is in violation with copyrights.

I now live a simple life, watch it, listen to it, read it, and be done with it. I don't want to collect movies, music, or books anymore. I gave them all away when we moved to a smaller space.

A wise decision. You never know what kind of damage you can do to your computer (especially Windows) by not paying close attention to where you get downloads from.

Thank you! :) Yes, it is better to keep away from such sites that we do not know much about. Anyway, when I used the torrent a few times, I didn't even know that it was illegal, but now that I know, I am done with them for good!

Well if someone knows better, with torrent virus can come with files. So better to have antivirus before going for it. For me, I do it sometimes for downloading movies and all that. Nothing more than it.

Yeah, I torrent. I don't really download games because the only ones I regularly play I have to pay for them because they're online, but I do torrent a lot of movies and shows.

Torrents are perfectly legal. I have heard of some free to play games use torrents to distribute their game clients because they can't afford the bandwidth to host them directly. It is illegal to download copyrighted files that you don't have permission to download, though.

How do torrents operate?

Torrents are to share files from individuals, which is what makes them so dangerous. ANYONE can post a file to share and they are not checked for copyright violations, virus or spyware, so you don't know for sure what you are getting.

I am not much of a torrent type down-loader because I watch most of the movies online and if I love some movies which I watch a number of times I download it via torrent. It takes time to download but is good. But the only disadvantage is the virus problem.
