Bought software, conned?

Postby germainebull » 11 Jul 2016, 15:19

I once bought a one-year antivirus program key from a vendor.
This software worked well for about a month before I lost ownership.
The manufacturer sent me a message stating that my software had been installed on two devices.
Consequently, the two installed versions of the software were remotely deactivated.

Have you experienced a similar problem?
How did you handle it?

Did you register an account on the official website of the Anti-Virus software? If so, they should offer the ability to see how many devices it is installed on, what devices they are and the ability to remove devices.

Yes there should be such feature on it. I am using avast, and I have such option to deactivate it on other device using it.

This is totally new for me, I have used Quickheal in the past and have only recently bought one full years' subscription to Kaspersky but have not registered on their site so far. Is it really essential to do that?

Not essential but useful if you reinstall your OS or replace your PC/laptop for example and need to remove the "old" installation so you can reinstall it again. I use Bitdefender and I am able to do this which is useful as I can only run Bitdefender on one device.

I mean I have a Bitdefender license that allows me to run the software on one device only. Currently it is installed on my laptop. If it is stolen, fails in some way and I don't get the chance to uninstall the software, I can login to their website and remove my old laptop freeing up the license. I can then reuse my license key on my new device.

Can you tell what software is that? Is it one of the renowned ones? did you get the key from their official website?
Did you give that key to any other or actually did install it on another device?

Yes removing them is necessary otherwise they will count as second installation. So that's why it is necessary.
