I don't know about other countries, but in the USA all you need is a digital antenna you can get for around $25 with no monthly fees at all. I have them on all my TV's and get all the local channels for free.

Here in Pakistan our ISP gives us a monthly package with a small fee, they have their own app through which we can watch up to 250 channels.

I have Flash player on my iMac. From there I can watch videos on Youtube, Hulu, Crunchyroll, but I can't afford to subscribe to nextflix...-_-

Thanks for this post.
I'll now have to consult local technicians on this.

It doesn't require a technician. All you do is screw on the cable, run a channel seek from your TV menu and start watching. Depending on your local reception you get more or less channels, but there is not much you can do except move if you want more.

This is refreshingly interesting.
I had no idea that Pakistan is thus developed in terms of technology.

Thanks for this info.
It will come in handy if I want to watch TV from my computer while at my second home.

With the antenna and decent reception, you can use your computer to make money while watching TV. It is not necessary to watch TV.

Aha. Very interesting post. How does this work? Is it applicable to users from across the globe?

The TV being on is just a distraction to make the boring job of clicking ads go easier by allowing you to stay at it much longer (at least it does for me).

You need to buy a tv tuner for your computer and an antennae.

Most TV's bought in the last several years have a tuner built in, so all you need is a digital antenna. Once you hook it up, look on your menu to see how to scan for channels that come in for your area.

I use VPN and then purchased netflix plan. I think you can do the same but considering you're already in US, you don't have that VPN issue. I'd say stick with youtube. It has plenty of webseries and the shows on it. You don't even have to pay for those. I'd say avoid torrent and other methods because people work hard so pirated online sites may not be worth it. Just my 2 cents.

Are you looking for a way to broadcast local TV channels on your computer, or do you just want to watch television shows for free on your computer? Depending on which you prefer, you might just be able to go to the website of the local station and stream content. I don't know if you're in the US or another country; we might be able to direct you to specifics if we knew your location.
