Computer Maintenance Tips & Tricks

Postby sherryinutah » 09 Aug 2016, 19:42

Maintaining a computer is a lot like cleaning house; sometimes, you have to take out the trash.

Most of us download software to help ourselves take good care of our computers. My laptop is something I value so I'm motivated to maintain it.

Because I visit so many sites where I click ptc ads and do gpt offers, I use something called Ccleaner. It's free software I use to clear temporary internet files. It also works out beautifully if I have a pop-up I can't get rid of that causes my browser to freeze. If that happens - I just launch Ccleaner.

System Requirements:
Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7, Vista and XP. Including both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. There's also a link for Mac users.

http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download

You can subscribe and pay for an upgraded version of the software; however, I like the free version for obvious reasons.

Do you do anything special to maintain your computers, smartphones, etc.?

Thanks for the link. I think I would be happy with the free version for the same obvious reasons too. :D I will have to check this out and use it on my laptop. I have not cleaned up my computer since I have been using it for online work.

I affirm that Ccleaner is a worthy software for anyone using a computer.
Recently, I managed to get rid of redundant system files from my laptop through this software.

I used CCleaner on my HP laptop too, and it worked! My computer runs faster. Just don't use the registry cleaner section, it can get your computer into big trouble; a mistake I have learned the hard way!

I use Linux to visit my PTC sites or general surfing, but I still love CCleaner on my Windows computer and have used it for years.

Online today, it is very dangerous to download software from any site but the real one. People are constantly trying to spoof us so we download Malware. I went to download Audacity yesterday and on the SourceForge site I saw comments warning about spyware and telling people to go to another site to get it, when in fact they led to a suspicious site I did not trust. I do trust SourceForge because I have used them for many years so I followed their link instead.

I am also using CCleaner in my windows 10 laptop, it works smoothly. Not much fuss, takes out the trash by itself, what more would you want from it.

CCleaner is a good software to keep your computer running smooth but it is not enough, along with it you should use an anti spyware and an antivirus, I would recommend Malwarebytes as an anti spyware or Adware.

Further more you should also use windows tools to defrag the hard disk and clean files that are not used anymore.

Thank you, Darkthorn....for the information. After reading your post I decided to search for:

best free anti-spyware and anti-malware software

I came up with some information that could be worth having. The following link had some great information.

Maybe we can all connect with free software to help us maintain our PCs.

Thanks for that link, it was one more good place to leave a comment to try to educate people on why Linux is the best solution of all.
