From the official websites of the top renowned antiviruses like AVG, Avast, Norton Or whichever you like, but it should be from their official website.
Which one do you want to buy?

I see.

I've been using kaspersky.
Lately, my kaspersky product has had update problems.
I'm shopping for the 1-year, 2-user product with the lowest cost.
Which brand do you propose?

You have so many sites to buy a legit anti virus software, you can try the following ones:

www.bitdefender.com - A good anti virus not as heavy as kaspersky
www.kaspersky.com
http://www.bullguard.com
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

If you do a search on Google you will find much more :)

Is it really worth paying for an antivirus? I have used many different free versions without a problem. At the moment I am using Bitdefender which I like. I also run Malwarebytes on a regular basis and occasionally Superantispyware and although I've had a few additions to my browser I didn't want they were easily remedied.

Buying it from official website often helps. And it can be really good if you're having issues with other random piracy versions. So buy it from distributor or the official website.

Well that depends on how you use the internet, a paid software always offers different things than free antivirus, one of them is your privacy, free antivirus companies many times sell their users data for advertising. Also if you use internet banking a paid antivirus gives you a better protection, but these are only few examples.
I use a free antivirus but I also use a VPN so I am better protected.

I've noted with amazement that it is more costly to purchase an antivirus product software than to buy it from local vendors.

Please forgive me for sounding like an idiot but how different is a linux computer from a windows computer? Is it altogether a different setup completely or you just need a special programme to run it on linux? :?:

I have never bought any software online, and have been using the Free version of Avast for years! However, I don't do anything online beside writing and work on few sites that are legitimate.

You sound like an ordinary computer user to me, the idiots don't bother to ask. The difference is in the operating system software, since the computers can be exactly the same. If you install Windows on your hard disk (or buy it already installed), then when you turn it on it will run Windows. In my case, I installed Linux on my hard drive, so when I turn it on it runs Linux. Most virus or spyware attackers design them to work on Windows (because it's a larger audience) and the software devices they use to hook into your computer, won't work on Linux. You can also use the exact same computer to run both Windows and Linux from a menu choice (called dual booting), or even run Linux from a USB thumb drive with Windows on the hard drive.

Yes it is different operating system that is comparatively safe from scammers and viruses. Just download it and get started. Things are different on it as it moves in other direction than Windows but once you know it, you will see it is easy to use. Most professionals prefer using Linux for various reasons.

Linux do have it's fair share of the virsus. And now that .NET framework is available for the linux, there is going to be market for the virus soon. So it all depends how the file downloaded and executed. most of the files on linux are not easy to modify for non root users.so it's protected that way.
