What machine jobs are best done by humans?

Postby earthsalt » 19 Aug 2016, 08:27

I know; machines are an indispensable aspect of our civilization.
But, in your opinion, what machine jobs are best done by humans?

Thinking is the job best by humans. No matter how advanced machines are made or the so-called artificial intelligence is used, thinking rationally or logically according to situations is one thing that machines will never beat us.

Yes. Machines sometimes fail to perform simple thinking/logic actions.

I would say machine or robot can never replace chef or cook as they are unable to taste as far as job concern. I don't see it happens even 10 years from now.

They might be able to follow the recipe, with all the measurement written out, but tasting the food or smelling the food, they won't be!

From my personal experience, they do a pretty poor job of answering a telephone and directing you to the appropriate person to handle the call.

Working on a New Side-Hustle

Since age is no longer creeping up on me, but rushing in like an NFL ball carrier on 4th down from the 1 yard line. it's very simple.

Food, parenting and friendship. Food prepared by machines don't taste good and it shows. Your machine made burger and pizza hardly taste good compared to home made pizza. Parenting using robots won't be a good upbringing. And friendship with Siri type machine will increase your suffering.

Besides the taste aspect, I'd be hesitant to consume machine-prepared food for other reasons. What if this machine did not detect a certain color that reflects danger?

I share your skeptical sentiments; I'd not wholly trust a machine to exhaustively evaluate the safety of a food product.

What about manufactured foods like bread, yoghurt, sodas etc? Don't you think the machine play the bigger role of measuring and mixing the ingredients and packaging?

I think these are telephone, fax machine, printer, photo copier, microwave, washing machine etc, I cannot pick one because all have been helpful to me and my former company when I was still working.

There are humn jobs that I think machines will never replace, one big exemple is Creative Art jobs, art is an expression of human creativity and imagination, something that computers will never have. Another job is a teacher, technology may change the way we teach but human teachers will always be needed.
I think that all the jobs that require an element of human behaviour (intuition, creativity, compassion, imagination...) will always be in human field.

A valid observation.
But, some of your current 'facts' are sure to be adjusted in the not-too-distant future. Computers and computer experts are currently gaining previously unimaginable abilities.

All the jobs online that sites like Clickworker or mTurk hire people for, machines can't be as effective as humans for those tasks. In general I think machines have a lot of things to "learn" before they'll be able to perform a plethora of tasks.

Any job that entails differentiation and application of intuition to make decisions is best suited to human beings. Machines would most likely make ridiculous choices in such jobs.
