All in One computers

Postby sprite1950 » 19 Sep 2016, 06:03

I am thinking of changing my desktop because it is getting quite old and I would like to upgrade. I am contemplating getting an all in one as the idea of getting rid of all those wires and having a nice compact piece of equipment really appeals to me although I would still use a keyboard and mouse. Is it worth it or do you think a laptop is just as good?

All in one desktop would be good as it will save space for three different units, all those wires and the processing power too would be better than laptop. But then, you have to consider the portability aspect as well. With a desktop, you would be stuck in one place doing your work, with laptop, you have the freedom to move in different spots. So consider all these things and choose the best option that works in your favor.

I prefer laptop these days but If I have to work in one place without moving to new rented place then I'd use the desktop with good graphics and access to multiple operating systems like windows and linux. So I would surely use that. But for now I just rely on the laptop that pretty much does most of my work. I hope to get a good desktop soon but hopefully the configuration is good enough.

They are both good choices, because you can get tablets and add a keyboard and mouse. Personally I prefer a laptop, as I like to close a lid and protect the screen. Also if I am on the move, it's better.

I do have a tablet and I just hate swiping. Adding a keyboard is okay for some people, but personally I find it a pain. It's what you prefer. Most people who use them like to swipe so don't bother with a keyboard.

I have both a laptop and a standard desktop computer. I tend to use my desktop a lot more (even though both have similar processors, ram and plenty of diskspace). I would not pick an All-in-one; it negates some of the benefits of a desktop. A standard tower desktop with a separate monitor, screen and keyboard can be upgraded and changed at will. You can also sell or reuse those components somewhere else when you no longer have need for them. e.g. You may decide you need a much larger monitor... with an All-in-one, that's a new PC, but with a standard desktop it's easy to replace.

Thank you all so much for your advice. I have plenty to think about here and still don't know what I will do yet. I don't do anything very complicated as my skills are limited but it's nice to get ideas and opinions from others,

I guess a laptop with fast processing speed and ample disc space would do.

I don't have a desk top for more than five years, as with the growing of children and they went on their separate ways, they all have laptops for the obvious reasons.

I like to have a laptop because I can work any places in the house. If the living room is noisy, I take my laptop to the bedroom, and when the weather is nice outside, I like to be on the deck. It is really a personal choice.

If you are planning to use it at home all the time get an all-in-one. Laptops are underpowered, over-priced, and wear out after a couple years.

I have a laptop that I have had for over 3 years now and it is still going just fine. I also have a desktop that is getting old. It is nearly 5 years old but I still use it and my kids use that one. I use my laptop more since I can sit on the couch or take it anywhere with me. I like the portability of it. I think it is personal preference and what you plan to use it and where. I like having a desktop since I don't have a cd-rom drive on my laptop. All-in-one would be nice to save all that space and not have all the cords but I think it makes sense that you would have to replace all of it where you wouldn't with a traditional desktop.

Thanks a lot for your advice Sam, never thought of it from this angle. It definitely helps a lot when one or the other components need to be replaced, which can be done easily and economically as separate units that just one whole unit.

I prefer a detachable one, so can have it as tablet if not sit on the chair properly.

All in One computers are amazing although they're pretty pricy. If you have the funds and need the portability then sure, go ahead and buy one otherwise a laptop will be just fine.
