How long does a laptop last in general?

Postby sprite1950 » 20 Sep 2016, 09:06

I've seen posts and reviews that say the average life of a laptop is 2-3 years. I have had my chromebook for 5 years and it's still working well. What is the longest you have had a laptop and what would you say is the average life?

My first HP laptop lasted around 7 years, but I didn't do any crazy things with it beside writing. My second HP laptop lasted only 2 years because I signed up for those click to earn sites along with my friend. We both fried our laptops!

The average life for a laptop probably staying around 3-4 years if you don't do any thing crazy :)

I don't think most laptop stay more than 1-4 years. Reason I say 1 because some laptops die few weeks after 1 year warranty. So it all depends on the type of laptop, processor and stuff.

I think it can last for 5-6 years safely but I have never kept any for more than 3 years so would not be sure about that. My current laptop was bought in December 2013 (but I started using it in June 2014) is in perfect shape good for another 2 years.

I think it really comes down to how the person uses the laptop. My laptop is in excellent shape and running well still. I hardly use it though so that could be why. I prefer my desktop over my laptop... I think it helps a lot if we take care of our PCs. Doing regular cleanups of files, virus checks and not downloading crap that might slow things down like toolbars, etc.

I have a Dell laptop I use for click to earn programs every day and it's 15 years old, so it depends on many variables obviously. Mine runs Linux from memory and 90% of the use is clicking the mouse.

The battery goes in 3 years or so but you can still use it when its plugged in for another 3 years before it dies.

Laptops can last as long as five years or more. It depends on factors like luck, how well it is maintained, etc. As previously mentioned, the batteries tend not to last much longer than two or three years. They can be replaced, but it is a bit pricey.

I just plug mine in when I use it and at 15 years old it is still running. I think I did buy a replacement on Ebay a few years ago for about $12 or so.

If you take care of your laptop, it can last for a long time. I've had one that I've been using for 8 years and it still works (although it's much slower now). But it would also depend on what brand of laptop it is and what you use it for. I would say the average life is only 4-5 years though.

Yeah, I don't mind plugging in my laptop to use it. I've used many laptops with dead batteries. :P However, it is nice to have a functional battery so that you can be truly mobile.

My Compac laptop has clocked six continuous years of service. The touch pad and caps lock indicator light are however not working at the moment.

It depends on how you use the laptop. Gentle and care can make laptop last for 5 to 6 years. I don't think a laptop would not last after 10 years as it would have problems on battery and heat sink. Though it can be fixed, it would not be as the new one.

This is a bit surprising. Is your desktop faster than your laptop?

I can click just as many Clixsense ads on my 15 year old Dell Laptop as I could on my brand new desktop system. In fact maybe more, since I am not worried about getting malware or virus problems.

This is interesting; It appears Dell is a prime laptop brand. What are the processing speed, HDD, and RAM specs of your laptop?

I have an HP Envy and I have had it for about 4 years now. I have only just been using it on a daily basis for about 1 year. I don't really run it too much off the power cord so I don't think the battery is really dead yet. It does tend to get hot but I have a fan under it to help with that. I try to let it cool down for a little while and then continue on with my work. I guess it just depends on the way you use it, how much you use it, and the brand.

I'm using mine for last ten years, and it's still working. The only problem I face while working for some sites which ask for lasted OS. I'm still using Windows XP, and cannot work for many sites for that reason.
