Utility of large CPUs

Postby germainebull » 23 Sep 2016, 16:37

When I was studying for my basic computer applications course, I was made to understand that a large CPU indicates the advanced age and slow performance of a computer. This was more than 15 years ago. To date, I still see large CPUs displayed for sale. Have the rules changed? Someone please clarify.

I don't understand the questions, are you telling us that big CPUs are slower than the smaller ones? I think it's true, technology has advanced and the better CPU's right now are smaller because they're so updated.

Technology has indeed allowed more computing power to take up less space, but don't multiple cores require larger packages so the ultimate size may end up larger? The higher power also means larger heat sinks, so it's not a simple as we think.

Your post has enlightened me a bit on this matter. Indeed, it is a complicated matter.
