Noncompetitive strategies employed by your mobile carrier

Postby germainebull » 29 Sep 2016, 17:05

Companies sometimes use underhand tactics to push competitors out of business. What strategies (noncompetitive) does your mobile carrier use to stifle competitors?

Quite the opposite, my previous carrier was T-Mobile until I discovered they allow smaller companies to resell the same service and a lower price and with better terms. Now I use the same towers and pay half as much. I also get the advantage of being paid if I get new customers for them.

Working on a New Side-Hustle

Since age is no longer creeping up on me, but rushing in like an NFL ball carrier on 4th down from the 1 yard line. it's very simple.

When I think of noncompetitive strategies, I tend to think of cable/broadband companies rather than mobile carriers. Cable/broadband companies have deals with each other to ensure that there is only one company in most areas. This ensures that they can charge whatever they want for services that cost very, very little to provide.

There was one case here, Malaysia. A major telco have to reduce it price due to price issue aflame in social media.
Social media was aflame when a former Maxis user revealed that some customers were offered cheaper tailored mobile plans while others remain unaware of the secret offers. Read this:

I am currently with T-Mobile, and have been for years with them. For two lines, I am paying over $100 a month but they seem to have the best price around. I was cheated by Verizon every month, and AT&T are too expensive to switch.

Verizon has a tactic that insert charges onto my phone bill every month, and I don't even know what they are. I spent way too much time fighting with them over the charges every month, so I swore never go back or introduced anyone to that company!

I also showed up at a local shop once and found out I was not alone in this sneaky business of charging customers for things that had no explanation. Many threw their phones contract back at them.

Would love to know the smaller company that T-mobile is contracting to :)
