Brad Pitt death hoax

Postby sprite1950 » 03 Oct 2016, 07:17

I thought I would warn people about this facebook hoax which is doing the rounds and could potentially harm all your devices if you click on it. I did but changed my password immediately as people were warning anyone who clicked on it. I googled it and this is the report I found:

"Brad Pitt is alive and well, and if you click on a story claiming otherwise ... it could expose your phone, computer or other device to hackers.
Facebook is warning users not to click on what appears to be a FOX News report about Brad's death. If you do fall for it, and enter the requested info ... the bad guys can get your passwords and control of your account.
The malware is evil genius -- the hackers clearly preying on the public's interest in all things Brad and Angelina Jolie.

If you've already fallen for it (pretty embarrassing, eh?) ... FB suggests changing your password immediately and running its malware software scanner."

I thought it was worth a mention here.

Wow, thanks for flagging this! And such a shame there are a lot of "desperate" people out there who make use of other people's problems to scam others! :problem:

Thanks for the info. Fortunately, I am not interested in celebrity lives and could care less about the whole Brad and Anjelina drama that is going on. Seems to always be something with them. These people that do this type of thing will stop at nothing to ruin or make people's online life difficult. At least, Facebook is aware of it and trying to do something to prevent it.

The post was quite informative. The rumours on the facebook and other social media can really be a threat to humanity but what ever it is, we should be quite particular about this. And keep changing the password if possible daily so that our account could nlt be hacked by anyone and secondly dont trust rumours.

I'mma be honest, I pity anyone dumb enough to fall for this scam. I mean given how much coverage the Brad and Angelina divorce has gotten how would they not know that he's still alive?

To be fair the report did look real enough and we have lost a lot of celebrities this year so clicking on the news report would be quite natural. However, it apparently then asked people to fill in various information although I'm not sure what, that would have made me suspicious.

Thanks for the heads up, there are a lot of "news" sites like these that will completely "infect" your PC if you enter them. They're pretty easy to spot though.

Thank you for the information, I never saw this hoax but normally I don't click on everything that shows up on facebook. I prefer to read the news on other sites :). Everyone should be carefull with Facebook because most people have no idea how dangerous it can be.

Surely, if I happen to see it at present and I failed to read this, I will be clicking that. This scammer is really smart of giving a title because surely people will click this. This makes me think that all death hoax will have a malware virus when you click it, thanks for sharing.

Oh now that's just sad... I don't see how anyone wouldn't feel suspicious over an article like that asking for a from fill out. But then again a lot of people don't have experience with this sort of thing, so it's possible for them to fall for it.
