I'm finally playing a BlazBlue game. :)

Postby Hanyouyomi » 04 Oct 2016, 04:13

So I got BlazBlue:Calamity Trigger for my birthday four days ago(Sept. 29), and well currently I suck at it. :p But I'm practicing, and this is the first fighting game that's caused me to take different approaches in playing with different characters because some are easier to do a string of combo attacks with than others.

I'm amazed too that this franchise is only eight years old, because Calamity Trigger feels like a 1999/2000/2001 arcade fighting game.

Is this a compliment? A condemnation?

Anyway, congrats for reaching your nth birthday!

It's an observation, because the way the fight moves of the 32 bit sprites are animated, the CGI backgrounds, anyone my age(I turned 28) who grew up with arcades like X-men vs. Street Fighter, The Street Fighter Alpha Games, Marvel Vs. Capcom, Guilty Gear, or King Of Fighters would've thought BlazBlue was made in the same era, but it wasn't. Which is impressive because console ports of arcade games couldn't replicate the graphics because of the software limitations of the consoles.

I could be wrong, but it seems as of 2006 with what the hardware of the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii were capable of that ws no longer the case.

The game doesn't seem too bad, I checked out some trailers on Youtube and Calamity Trigger seems really fun. Is it worth buying if I never played this kind of games before?

I'd say so if you're a fan of fighting games. But only very few characters are "button masher friendly," and they'd be "Noel Vermillion," "Jin Kisuragi," "Bang Shishigami," and "Litchi-Faye-Ling." The rest not so much as you'll need to practice with them a bit to see what moves you can pull upp and get a feel for how they fight, and which button does what. Of course you can also configure the controls to make using them easier. But at the very least start with the "beginner" difficulty setting to get a feel for the game in playing in the arcade mode and story mode.

Or at least what I did starting out. Now that I have a better grasp on each character I can gradually bump up the difficulty. Also once you get a feel for each character, you're gonna need to devise a strategy on how to beat each opponent with them because every character has weak points and openings you'll be able to spot. At least on the "Beginner difficulty anyways. :p
