We do have fibre optic broadband in the UK but I've googled the hell out of it and can't find the date it was introduced. We've had it for some years though and by the year 2017 it is thought that it should be available to 95% of UK businesses and households.

I have standard broadband because it is cheaper and good enough for what I want but the speed of fibre optic broadband is supposed to be much faster. I daresay we will all have it at some time in the future.

They are busy trying to get it installed here, but apparently it's a huge and very expensive undertaking. I wish they'd hurry up and do it because internet access in Botswana is seriously lacking and remains a luxury as many people still don't have access, a serious tragedy in this day and age IMHO! For a so-called middle income country, it's shameful to hear time and time again that Botswana is lagging way behind most countries in terms of the quality of internet access available here. I would really like to know what indicators they use to determine some of the rave reviews we get as a country LOL

I have heard of it, but not sure where fiber optic is available. I am using cable and it is pretty good. I am afraid of changes, since it might ends up costing more on my monthly bills. Any updates, upgrades, or changes, the costs always landed on the customers' bills at the end.

Fiber óptica internet is spreading fast in my country, though where I live I don't have it, that is why I am having problems with my internet connection. Probably next year it would be possible install it in my place and I hope internet works better with it.

Actually Romania (where I live) has the 2nd fastest internet connection in the world so we're doing good in that department, I think we were one of the first countries to have optic fiber too!

This is good to hear. Kudos to whoever runs your IT department. Is this connectivity accessible to common folks?

True; fiber internet is unrivaled in terms of download speeds. I would give a lot to access it.

Good to know! If I ever have the option, I'll go with fibre because I'd much rather pay that little bit more for a faster, more reliable internet service. In the end, it's well worth it because there's never as much inconvenience and loss of work due to inadequate internet access.

I actually pay less for fiber than I did for normal cable.

I have fiber optic internet now. I have only had it for about 3 months, but it is very fast and reliable! And I pay less than I did for the others.
