You can get the Kindle app on your phone, your tablet, and PC for free. Then you search for free books to download and read. There are all kind of books, cooking books, religious books, etc. that are free for Kindle. And there are books that will cost you some money, but they are usually very affordable.
I've had my Kindle Fire for maybe 4 years and I LOVE it! IcyFirefly has answered all your questions, took the words right out of my mouth. In my experience however, I've found a lot of the free eBooks are free for a reason; they tend to be shoddily written and just [b]HORRIBLE[/b] LOL There are very few exceptions. I don't bother getting them anymore, unless the reviews are very good (although that's not always reliable!). I prefer to buy, and don't really mind because eBooks aren't that pricey, anyway.
I am not much of a reader anyway and if at all I get into that mood I would prefer reading books. I have downloaded kindle though from amazon just to oblige a friend who was selling his book.
