Managing USB tethering data consumption

Postby germainebull » 24 Oct 2016, 08:26

I've been using the USB tethering feature on my phone for several days as my USB stick has some problem. I've however noticed that my rate of data consumption has significantly increased (Perhaps my phone is sharing my internet with my laptop).
I want you to advice me on how to set my phone such that no background processes consume my data.

There should be settings in your phone setup that determine which apps can use data and how much. Your best approach would be to contact your phone manufacturer or search your Help on your phone.

Thanks for the advice.

I did this when I went on holiday in my own country. It worked brilliantly but I did have to buy extra data as I think however you manage it you will be in the position where you need to buy more. I think it would be best to contact your network provider so that you can get the best deal.

I think you have to disable auto updates of the phone, tablet, desktop. When you are syncing the apps make sure the sync is on demand. Make sure it is not running in the background. This way you can save a lot of money on data. I have disabled auto update and sync at the same time. This way many things can be managed.

On my phone I set updates for Wi-Fi only, so they are all free.

I don't know what is this USB tethering all about. I have been using my handy phone for Internet when my laptop couldn't connect to a regular Internet connection. I often use it for the knowledge that my service provider or the network that I am using has assured me not to overcharge me when I have exceeded of the limit set for my Internet usage. To my dismay, my latest phone bill has exceeded several folds compared to my regular or monthly plan bill. I think they are not controlling my Internet consumption while I am using my phone.

I'm sorry for this mishap. This is the reason why I am seeking a solution ton the problem of excess internet expenditure while using the USB tethering facility.
