Data center of indian government bank down for a day

Postby niche » 25 Nov 2016, 11:46

On Monday 21.11.2016, the data center of a public sector indian government bank was down for an entire day and there was no internet connectivity all over india. What is the likely to be reason for the problem that no branch in India could connect to their server as banks are supposed to have failure proof systems?

sound like a cut scene straight out of sci-fi hollywood movie, and from the looks of it, we can assume its the usual cliche development where the mastermind is the instigator itself. nevertheless, i hope everyone's bank account is safe...

Bank accounts appear to be safe at present, however it appears that the bank does not have fool proof systems, which most critical installations should be having

Yes I could agree with the recent demonetization. I saw on the news people forming long queues outside the banks to exchange their 1,000 rupee bills ( if I remember that right)

I think all the downtime and stuff is reasonable. Around the world many govt have the downtime. I think you are over reacting over this. Imagine 10 years back we didn't had proper data center to begin with. And previous govt stopped the progress for quite some time. Atleast we are progressing rather quickly.

When banks were using manual systems there was no downtime, if automated systems are not reliable for indian banks, they should not use these systems, they should have some manual backup. As a person who worked on large automated systems more than a decade ago, with no downtime, it is an indication of extreme incompetence, of NTRO, the indian equivalent of NSA

Seriously? Do you think population of 10 year back and now justifies manual work? People in bank now are 8 to 10 per branch. Whereas 10 years back they were 20 or more. And now they don't even do good job despite digitization. Do you know amount of money loss and corruption due to lack of digitization? If you think manual work solves current populations problem of banking ,you are deluding yourself. People are doing million transactions as we speak through digital model. Slowing that down only leads to money, time and progress of nation.

Downtime happens all over the world. Even US has it's downtime. Forget NTRO, Google and govt stuff that you are thinking right now. Reality is every infrastructure has downtime. Almost everybody on this forum can agree their country has downtime too.

This is the thing I worry so much for until now my TinyCent account is not paying me for the reason that Indian Banks are in holiday. This would be another reason which TC could reason out to its members.

Many of the cooperative banks are doing work manually without any major problems . In Goa, NTRO is extremely inefficient, my cheque was not cleared at least twice in the last one year, because of internet connectivity or network failure . For the last 25 years, there was no problem for any cheque when banks were using manual systems, now in India incompetent people have great powers in the internet sector and in the last one year, there are many failures

Co operating banks don't handle international business. Co operating banks don't clear remittance in 1 day. Co operating banks can go down way more easily than private or even known PSU banks. You assume the population 25 years back hasn't changed and you think current work load can be managed by manual work. which is very funny assumption. just look at the condition of banks after demonetization how efficiently they are working on manual mode. they are horribly under trained for handling people and their cheques. without internet and digitization you think country will run progressively? think again

Nationalized banks were also manual till a decade ago, except for printing, and the number of banks has increased. The problems are due to resume theft of harmless experienced engineers from top colleges by cbi, indian security and intelligence agencies , that inexperienced mediocre frauds are given great powers, intelligence jobs with fake resumes

Problem is not due to resume theft or anything. Problem is population and amount of people increased for banking. You can't mix CBI, NTRO, Resume theft in everything. Because that's not the case.

Now because of the incompetence of NTRO, (the indian equivalent of NSA) the data center for a nationalized bank was down, and a cheque issued was not cleared despite having sufficient balance. SBI credit cards is now charging Rs 450.62 as dishonour fees for the cheque because the data center of the nationalized bank was down which is big fraud on the customer.
Government employees are getting a salary and pension , why are private citizens being penalized for the incompetence of the corrupt government officials who cannot maintain data center and banking networks properly, resulting in downtime
