Why do I see 'i' in a ring?

Postby suny » 12 Dec 2016, 14:57

While accessing certain websites I see an 'i' inside a ring in place of https or www? Is it me or others also experience the same? By the way I am seeing the same here on this site too. As much as I understand it has something to do how the webmasters deal with security of these sites. Please let me know more about it!

I am also seeing the same 'i' on two of the three websites I am browsing at the moment. When I hover my pointer on this 'i' thing, I'm getting the following text "View site information".

I am a novice in technological matters and can therefore not offer an explanation for this phenomenon.

I remember seeing this phenomenon sometime back. I did not think much about it. It is thus good that you've brought it up.

It is referring to the information about the permission, certificate and other details. i in ring icon is basically pointing to information where you get the iddea what any site is trying to access on user computer. in case of HTTPS or even normal basic connection it has lot of data being sent.

I am seeing this on forumcoin too and I do not think they are after my data. Maybe these sites should look for better secured servers or privacy options which will be enough. As much as I know it's Google's ploy to alert their users.

i is for information, if you click on it it will show you information about the website, information specifically about the security of the website. you will see it on websites without SSL.

I see.

Should I be worried about this 'i' ring? Is my information/data safe?

Not exactly, but what I feel that owner of these sites should take care of this if possible without spending extra on this issue.
