What is the best Time Machine alternative for windows that allows you to easily automatically backup (to the cloud or when you plug in a hard drive)?

Would DropBox work for you, or what about a Git hosting service such as Github or Bitbucket?

I'd probably prefer to keep my backups on an external hard-drive (i.e. when I plug it in, it backs up my system) - IF possible.
