Useful ideas here. Thanks for sharing!

I however have some questions; Would your tracking method work if my phone has already been switched off? That is, will I still be able to locate it?

Is it really that accurate though as when I have changed my googlemail password it will tell me a new sign in was done from a town some distance away from me although still in the same county town. Is it like this for a phone or can google locate it more accurately?

yes it is accurate 99% always, because many of my friends tried this and told me about it's result.

Please do.
Because, if this is not the case, then your app may not be very useful in an instance when I've lost my phone to a thief. This is because, the thief would inevitably switch the phone off at the first opportunity.
