When you post on forums, do you copy and paste first?

Postby jacktheking » 06 Jan 2017, 02:50

Full question: When you post on forums (or comment on blog), do you copy and paste what you have wrote before you click the 'post' (or 'comment') button?

I only started this habit recently when the editor at my own forums have bug. Now whenever I am posting something on a forums, I will CTRL+A then CTRL+C before I click the 'post' button. Even though sometime we may be able to retrieve the post back by using the backward button but copying it ensure that the data will still be with us.

What about you?

When I'm posting something big (like an article) I'm usually pre-writing it in notepad (I know the BBCodes already), so I usually don't have a reason to copy them. However, I do so frequently, out of reflex. I don't know why would I have such a reflex, but I always do save everything really often (I usually save text files at almost every typing break, around 10 times a minute, even more).

jacktheking has raised important ideas that are obviously useful to all of us. I must however state that I do not usually remember to hit CTRL + C whenever I'm posting on forums.

No, I don't and have never done that at all for forum posting. But I certainly do it with larger articles because I couldn't just type and submit a post straight away. It usually takes me 2 - 3 days to be happy enough with an article before I submit it. I've heard some people who work on wordpress say they write directly on there and save a draft while they are working on articles, but even that doesn't work for me.

No I don't but there have been times when I wished I had because I've written something quite long and then for one reason or another lost it. That used to happen on Bubblews quite a bit because the site was always crashing. If you posted something just as it crashed it would be lost forever :(

I copy and paste to do my forum coin article because I use word counter to type the article out and give my opinion and then I paste it to the forum coin website. Most of my other posts I don't use copy and paste.

I do sometimes. It already happened to me more than once posting something and ocurring an error that made it not possible being what I wrote irrecoverable. When I write something I've put some effort into I almost always copy it before. Always using the shortcut Ctrl + C, faster and easier! If I want to save for more time I usually do a draft on my email with it and let it stay there until it's useful anymore

By doing so it is a waste of time. But when you are leaving a lengthy comment, it would be advisable to do that for as what you have said if the site would fail to display properly your comment. All what you have written would come to naught and it is impossible for you to rewrite in toto of the same text and content. It is actually a case to case situation.

Some frustrations that I've gone through have caused me to appreciate the need to always copy+paste my work before submitting. For example, while sending a support message on various sites, I've been rudely shocked to discover that my internet is not up to speed after I've hit the 'submit' button! How frustrating, especially if I'm trying to send a rather lengthy message!

I must admit I don't. I try to do it when I am composing long posts but I quite often forget. Thankfully most times there is no problems but occasionally I have been known to lose long posts... especially in our admin discussion section which is password protected. If I am writing a post while switching to other tabs and then login to the admin control panel here in another tab, it will require me to enter the admin forum password again when I post and entering the password or pressing back will result in the post being lost. I usually swear alot on these occasions

I never copy anything on this site before posting because I have seldom failed. But I can suggest you that if you use Chrome then clicking at back button may solve the problem in most such cases.

No, right now I am not doing it. However, once I experienced slow in my internet connection, I do open an MS Word and copy paste my comment. Right now it is not needed as I have stable internet. I do that most on my articles.

I guess notepad would serve your purpose at a faster speed compared to MS Word.

Is that so? I have never felt any difference when posting my articles on any website's editor. The only difference is that from MS Word one can post as it is but in case of transferring content using notepad one has to format it before transferring.

I have actually copied and pasted sections of articles and put it in inverted commas to show that it is not my words when I am writing something and need to show people where I am getting my info from to prove a point. Normally I just post links although I always add my own words to the post to explain why I am posting it.

I was going through the terms and conditions the other day and I did read we're not really supposed to do that although I've never been picked up on it. I don't usually copy and paste my own posts unless I think for any reason I might lose it or I made a mess of something and want to save a part of what I've written and delete the rest.

Omg yes ! I thought I was the only crazy one that's doing this thing. I'm a skeptical person, so I do it every time to make sure that I won't lose what I wrote.

I used to do that in Mylot because I have experienced getting an error after long posts so I had to retype everything. I don't do that here in ForumCoin because it's stable so far and I haven't experienced having to retype my post.

I don't usually copy-paste my posts before I submit them. I regret it when something goes wrong, though. This would be a good thing to start doing, but I just never think of it.
