Opera Neon

Postby CyberFreak » 12 Jan 2017, 13:45

Opera have announced a new futuristic browser concept called Opera Neon ---> https://www.opera.com/blogs/desktop/201 ... t-browser/

It is basically a concept of what browsers might be like in the future. It is build on Blink (same as normal Opera and Chrome) but has a very modern GUI that actually feels good. The only thing I dislike is that that the page you are browsing is quite narrow but it does look and feel great though.

Just thought I would share it incase anyone is interested and wants to play around with it.

I like it a lot. It's lightweight and very fast. The only thing that bugs me is that it still doesn't have extensions. I hope they add them soon and maybe then I start using it as my main browser.

Reading their forums I got the feeling they don't plan on adding them soon. But after such a great reception with users maybe they change their minds move forward with it.

If this is an improvement of the traditional Opera browser, I'd say it is a welcome innovation.
I'm yet to try it out though.

I've downloaded it and am replying to this topic with it open in Opera Neon, looks good so far. Will spend more time on it to see if it will become my default browser, which is currently Chrome.

Probably best to not use it as a default browser as it may not get any/many updates. While the response has been massively positive, the intention was just to see and show what the future may be like. That said it does certainly feel nice for the most part with actually very few issues. If they introduce some of the features from Neon into the normal Opera as they promise, Opera itself might turn into something like Neon.

Thanks for sharing ! It looks interesting to say the least. I've been only using Chrome for years, but I might try this browser, although I don't think it will replace Chrome since I already got so used to it.

While Opera has never been the most popular browser, it has always been the most innovative. Opera was the first browser to introduce tabbed browsing, for example. I may have to check this out.

I think they were first with the Speed Dial aswell.

Many people think of Opera as a browser that just hangs about with a few percent share of the browser market and just refuses to die but they really do make a good browser and are not afraid to make bold moves. Adding a VPN and built in adblocker. 2 things Google will never add. Especially the adblocker. They also implement things slowly but well. When they moved to Chromium they good alot of abuse because it was so simple to start off with but with every release they have been making strides to really move the browser forward and in a different direction from most other browsers.

I actually made Opera (not Opera Neon) my default browser. I like the fact that it does not eat up as much memory as Firefox and Chrome. It also feels very fast in a way that Firefox and Chrome do not.
