Date and time not valid

Postby earthsalt » 02 Feb 2017, 08:52

Date and time not valid: I am getting tired of this message that I am getting whenever I turn on my desktop computer.
How do I ensure I cease to receive this annoying message?

Your on-board battery may be having issues. Please do not ask me any more questions as I've simply obtained this insight from a forum site.

I sure hope Fergal or somebody else can help. I think it would wind me up no end if I kept seeing it, too! Can't say I've ever come across it before. I'm now curious to know what it is, how it came about and how you get rid of it.

As germainebull said, it's probable that the CMOS battery that saves your system's settings when your computer is turned off is dead. It is a standard CR2032 coin battery in most cases that can be purchased at most retail stores. If you are comfortable opening your computer, it is fairly easy to replace it once you have located it on your motherboard. Locating it can sometimes be tricky, though, because it can be hidden behind some of your computer's components depending on your motherboard's layout. If you are not comfortable replacing it yourself, anybody you might know who works on computers would probably be comfortable doing it.

It looks something like this:

Thanks MeowsePad for your informative post.
I am not comfortable fidgeting with my computer meaning I will have to consult a technician.

MeowsePad has nailed it. earthsalt, you don't have to be fretful about 'hegemony'; it simply means 'dominance'.

It happens to me too. I set right the clock of the computer then it works well.

Does the operating system need that clock to be running? I thought it could just update from the internet whenever you connect.

This hassle of setting my clock every now and then is irritating. I need a way of solving this issue once and for all.

I am also assign the same question. I thought computers did not need such kind of support from uses. :o

You do not need to be much surprised germainebull. Computers are not as 'intelligent' as we think.

Yes - they only do what we tell them, allegedly... :D

You are right, earthsalt. A computer is largely as good as its user. If a user is not up-to-date on many aspects, a computer would follow suit.

Not entirely; some computers have the capacity to identify and correct a user's mistakes.
