Exclamation mark, 'secure', 'not secure' labels

Postby germainebull » 21 Feb 2017, 14:59

Why is it that Google has recently taken to labeling websites using the exclamation mark, 'secure', and 'not secure' labels. If you are wondering, these labels appear at the extreme left side of the web address bar.

I think the 'secure' label is an assurance there is nil possibility of a user's data getting in the hands of unauthorized third parties.

Now Google expects all sites to be HTTPS and highlights sites that do not use HTTPS. It is annoying as they expect all sites to use it no matter if it is a bank of a simple HTML webpage for the family dog. I still think requiring HTTPS is an unneeded complication for many sites.

ForumCoin will one day use HTTPS but there are a few issues when adding it to existing sites full of user submitted content is regards to mixed content warnings where some content posted by users in the past of once we move to HTTPS link to non HTTPS content which causes the page to look compromised as it breaks the browsers HTTPS padlock.

Yes. It is frustrating for Google to impose such conditions. But, considering Google's hegemony, I guess we don't have much of a a choice but to comply.
