Electric bulbs with batteries

Postby earthsalt » 28 Feb 2017, 17:35

I have noted the influx of China-made electric bulbs with batteries in the Kenyan market. I am not very confident about Chinese products.
I want to know if you may have have spotted such bulbs from reputable companies such as GE, Philips, Osram etc.

Such bulbs may become available from reputable companies too but it will be a costly one.

I do know that wall bulbs which are used at night lamps for kids are battery operated.

If you are talking about those bright bulbs for lamp shades, nope haven;t heard of any reputable companies yet

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen those anywhere! I mean, I know battery operated lamps, not bulbs. I was struggling to paint a mental picture of it but it just doesn't make sense. I'll Google it and see if I can find any pictures.

It is also a useful concept because it assures you of up to 4 hours of light whenever your electricity supply becomes connected.

I'm sure Philips or any other branded company has not come up with anything like this. Moreover after the ban on chinese products here in India I have not seen any such bulbs yet.

Wow, that really does sound interesting. Round this part of the world, we sometimes get power rations and it can be so annoying. I don't like using candles because I feel they are a health and safety hazard, so I'll keep an eye out for these. For now, I can't afford a state of the art backup system :(

I was speaking with a local vendor in Nairobi the other day. This vendor informed me that Osram, a global reputable company, is in the process of manufacturing chargeable light bulbs. Good news. Isn't it?

It is a very interesting and welcome invention. With these light bulbs, I won't need to resort to emergency power in case the lights go off at 7 in the evening. The chargeable bulbs will carry me through the rest of the evening.

The best part of this invention is that these light bulbs charge themselves during normal use. The saved energy is then put into use when there is a power blackout.

Really? This is super convenient!
Do you know if I can tell when the internal battery is full?

I am yet to figure this bit out. Let us say I have been overwhelmed by this timely invention. I expect the details to emerge gradually as times goes by.
