Amazon Fire Tablets

Postby Sam » 07 Mar 2017, 20:54

Anyone with an Amazon Fire Tablet? What are they like (build quality, speed, apps)? Sadly, I can't get one in New Zealand but that might change with Amazon's entry into Australia mid-2017 BUT they seem like a fantastic idea: a cheap tablet for entertainment (which is what I view a tablet as).

This is hugely good news! The projected entry of Amazon into your country is bound to open up a world of goodies to you people!

I am sorry I can't respond to your specific query; I don't own an Amazon tablet.

Amazon has established itself as a formidable force in terms of launching high-end tech gadgets. I should thus expect Amazon Fire Tablets to be of excellent quality. My thoughts.

I have one but I've never thought it was that great, it is quite old though. I gave it to my granddaughter to download games. I suppose it depends what you want to do on it. It's good for watching movies if you have Amazon Prime but I found it very slow with regard to the internet. It came with Silk browser and I installed Dolphin as it recommended this for something I wanted to do. I think there is a way round installing the major browsers for those who have technical knowlege but I don't know how to do it.

I have had my Kindle Fire tablet for about 3 years and LOVE it. I must point out I use it predominantly as an eReader more than anything else. I mean, I do sometimes use it to surf the net when I'm upstairs lying in bed, too lazy to go down to the study to use my lappy.

I've people's reviews about bit not being all that but for me, it's great. I find it's fast and never get all glitchy on me. I guess because I rarely use it for anything besides buying eBooks and reading on it, there's less chance of me having problems with it. I think the problem with some people is that they expect it to perform as well as more sophisticated tablets such as say the iPad. -and quite frankly, I think that's just asking too much. The clue is in the price difference.

Yes I think you're right. I feel a bit mean for criticising it now as it does have it's uses.

I second your view; the Amazon Kindle tablet is meant mainly for reading eBooks. I therefore think users should not task this tablet with many browsing jobs.

Bezos is a formidable leader in the computing world. I am sure he will see to it that any issues in Kindle tablets are sorted out successfully.

OMG sprite, I hope you don't think I was referring to your comment LOL I was actually thinking of a Kindle Fire discussion forum on Amazon full of people moaning about how inadequate the Kindle is because it falls way short of Samsung tablets AND the iPad. I just thought, get real guys

The internet space has availed an unrestricted platform and avenue for voicing one's opinion. While this is a plus to humanity, it has been repeatedly abused, unfortunately.
Take your example of people using the Amazon internet space to criticize Kindle tablets for not having similar capabilities as Samsung and Ipad tablets. I refer to this as misguided criticism.

These are some of the benefits and pitfalls of freedom of speech. I highly doubt the world would be better without these freedoms. Countries that limit freedom of expression are usually poor in terms of innovations and ideas.
