Autonomously moving cursor

Postby earthsalt » 14 Mar 2017, 16:08

A short while ago, I noticed that the cursor is moving in a diagonal fashion across the computer screen. Curiously, I was not even holding the mouse.
I want to know what is causing this anomalous movement.

Do you use an optical mouse (with a red light on the underside)? Also if your mouse wireless? Interference can cause some strange behaviour depending on the surface you are using the mouse and anything else wireless nearby especially if someone else in your house has a wireless mouse.

This is strange to me. My educated guess tells me you might have a virus infection.

Yes. I am using this type of mouse. Is there anything I should know about this mouse?

Some electronic gadget or appliance could be causing interference to your mouse, hence the reported strange movement of the cursor across the screen.

Hey! I still want to know if my optical mouse has any special qualities I should be informed about. Your response will be much appreciated.

One of these qualities is that your optical mouse has a sensor underneath. This sensor enables you to move the cursor on the screen. When there is some interference on this sensor, you are bound to see your reported unexplained cursor movement.

A clear explanation. Thanks.
I wonder what is causing this interference. I guess I will have to investigate this possibility.
