Water on hard disk

Postby earthsalt » 21 Mar 2017, 15:27

A local technician recently informed me that it is not possible to salvage a hard disk that has accidentally come into contact with water. Another technician says this is not the case.
Which is which?

It is possible, albeit very hard. If you didn't attempt to dry or clean it yourself, it increases your chances slightly. Regardless, unless you had a lot of sensitive data on it, it's usually not worth the trouble (since recovering a hard drive is a very costly process).

Most hardisk are gone by the time you try to salvage the hardisk
It is electronic stuff, best to keep data in two other places

Water and any electronic device is a bad combination. So think of that hard disk as gone.

Usually technology and water don't go very well together, but I think you should go with the object itself to a couple of professionals and ask again. 2 people isn't enough to conclude something.

Water poses a lot of dander to any electronic device. The first technician may be right but don't leave out the chances of it beingreparable

You gotta buy a new one. I myself accidentally slide on a floor while holding a cup of coffee it spattered all over my brother's workstation I never really intent to be slipped that way. He was so mad at me at that time, because he got a lot of Graphic designs lining up due to the damage he got so frustrated because his computer desktop wasn't working anymore. My bad bro! :? :?

Depends which part is being contacted by water. I would try it.

I think it depends on the immersion of the hard disk in water. The interior of the hard disk is sealed to remain vacuum and if there is a leak then I guess it's goodbye.

Getting water inside HDD is not hard, there are many ways in like screw point or cable point. if those two points get water, the hard disk is gone girl :D

It happened at work before and nope we did not salvage the hard disk anymore. It is already damage. We cannot use it anymore even we already dried it. It was accidentally dropped on a pale of water. I am not sure how long someone saved it from the water but I know it didn't last a minute but still the hard disk was damaged.
