Postby earthsalt » 25 Mar 2017, 15:46

SeaGate is now allowing you to acquire a Hard Drive worth 12 terabytes! I wonder what you would fill such HDD with!

Wow! This is huge storage space!
Given that I have never managed to fill my 8 GB worth of flash disk with data, I salute this super huge HDD.

I do not see it's use for a pc.Instead i think companies should develop larger capacity SSD's.

You are right. I bet you can even start a sustainable movie/series business with this huge HDD.

I know people who download films from internet. It may be useful to them.

I think that a full-length movie in 4K would be around forty gigabytes, so I can see the use for a twelve terabyte hard drive even for consumers. It would save you from having to have a bunch of hard drives in your computer.

12GB HDD would be a wonderful HDD for a multi-slot server in the web-hosting business.

If you think that's impressive, how about a 1 Petabyte Hard Drive from Seagate? That is 1000 TB in memory. I can't imagine how one single person could fill that up, maybe it's made for big companies to store their information.

Those would be for servers for something like facebook. Can you imagine how many servers and space FB needs?

I can't really imagine it, considering Facebook is so huge. I imagine they have the budget though :D

My first computer didn't have any hard drive (it was a Spectrum 128k). My second computer had 128MB HDD :) And it was a really big HDD for the time. What is now 128MB?
For nowadays standards 12TB is a really big HDD. For now I really don't need one. I thing I prefere to have 12TB in several hard drives... :)

I think that this space is just ridiculously fantastic. I can't even how much it's cost will be. 12 TB storage is just huge and huge and it can be filled in short time, if it is connected to 5G or even 7G internet.

Even with a 1Gbps connection, it would still take something tremendously huge to fill it up quickly...such as 4K movies.

I agree with Allius, I rather have all the information in several hard drives for security reasons, can you imagine if the hard drive dies the amount of information lost? :geek: Anyway a user like me would not be able to use all the 12TB but I am sure somewhere around this world there is someone who can, by the way I know some girls who can do that just with pictures :P
