Captcha Menace

Postby raaman » 04 May 2017, 15:03

Nowadays, all websites other than those that use ‘wordpress’ theme asks the users to click a box that states ‘I am not a robot’. Here what is irritating is that a number of images that follow and ask us to click. I wonder why this madness with captchas!

Captcha is a security to differentiated between human and bots and to prevent spam bots and ad bots from signing up. It's very annoying when one is attempting to solve some of the captchas which may sometimes prove to be very difficult to decipher.

I don't mind captchas if they are easy to read but some of them are impossible so you have to keep refreshing to find one that is legible. That's why I failed miserably working on a captcha site for making money :?

Sounds tedious. Besides, I always have to wonder what they do with those CAPTCHA solves...

I have done a lot of refreshing myself, lol. My vision isn't that great to begin with and some of those puzzles are just a mess. Chatabout made you answer one with every post, and it got to be time consuming and frustrating.

As for the robot one, it can be a real pain on a slow site.

I agree with you. Some captchas are so annoying. Sometimes you end up failing the test and having to retry. I prefer word captchas over image captchas.

I have noticed something annoying with Googles ReCAPTCHA (the one with boxes where you click all the store fronts etc) and that is that some puzzles they give you when you start clicking them just show next at the bottom so when the puzzle is completed, you are guaranteed to get another puzzle. After one or 2, a puzzle will then show a verify button instead of the next/skip button and then you are judged on if you are right or wrong. Knowing this I now know if I am likely to be on the last puzzle or if I have atleast another one to solve.

One trick I noticed a while ago is that if you block third party cookies in your browser, you will get challenged 100% of the time. If you allow third party cookies, you will not always be challenged when clicking I am not a robot box.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing.

I hate those ones that go on and on... I don't always see exactly what they want me to see either. I'd rather have the one where you put the pieces together or something. Well, not really, they're all annoying, ha ha.

I hate aptcha (Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart). I think they are annoying and I even left some sites in the past because of it. Thanks God last month Google killed the Captcha security tool and replaced it by a new tool which is far more easy to use.

reccaptcha can be painful. Especially when you are using tablet or thee phone. I have found that it can be really bad that way.

I was just discussing this elsewhere, and someone said it's good if it works right. So, my question now is how do you make sure it works right?

I don't want to drive away visitors by using something that annoys them.

You can alter the security settings via your ReCAPTCHA admin page

You can choose a level that suits your needs. If you run a site that is heavily targeted, you might need to move the slider to "Most secure" otherwise either of the other 2 settings should be enough.

It is very annoying when you think you clicked them right only to be told 'wrong captcha' and you have to try again.

Personally, I don't like CAPTCHA, a lot of them are impossible to read. Most of the time, I end up refreshing the CAPTCHA three times before finally plugging in the right answer.

I understand their purpose in order to prevent spam, however, the verification process as a whole could be a lot better.

I posted a little tip above that is useful for this

If I start clicking them and it shows "next", i don't bother clicking the rest and just click next. Usually the second one or third one will show a verify button after clicking the first box. This way I only really put effort into one puzzle rather than all 2-3+.

yes, I agree, tried a few times but still get the wrong answer. Maybe the captcha is being very fussy

There's the option to have the code played as a sound as well. But I think I prefer the text version.

100% true. But it does not mean that they should ask us to click so many images one after the other. Once is not enough?

Filling captacha on websites does not bother me since it's used for security purposes and doesn't take that long to fill
