A company in California named Reduce. Reuse. Grow. has come up with a biodegradable coffee cup, embedded with native tree and plant seeds. When you’ve finished your coffee, you can plant the cup, or return them, to be planted by the company.

Americans discard over 146 billion coffee cups annually, even with recycling, the paper itself can only be reused 2-3 times before the fibers are unusable and need to be discarded in local landfill sites.

Each of these new cups will be capable of extracting over 1 ton of CO2 out of the atmosphere annually, once planted. Currently the company is using the damaged fibers from local recycling centers, which would normally be to rough to implement back into a packaging product. They are using these fibers to make the most ecofriendly coffee cup available.

The consumer visits a participating coffee shop, has a cup of coffee, and then they can take the cup and plant it in a number of different environments, depending on which variety of seeds they have in their cup.

There are instructions on the bottom of the cup, it’s pretty straight forward. You unravel the cup, soak it in water for five minutes and then plant it and watch it grow.

The company is currently running a campaign on Kickstarter to help get the cup into your local coffee shops. They have already met their goal, with 466 backers and four days to go.

Wow ! Its pretty impressive !! And really ecological ! Maybe Starbuck and other coffee store similat should offer more projects for the ecology ! Its good for us, the nature and the futur !

And it would be good for everyone ! Tree are good to create oxygene and they look almost always good. Everybody Wil help the ecology doing that!

Wow this is pretty interesting never heard of anything like this before it is a good initiative to stop unnecessary garbage if only everyone was responsible than we would love in a better environment

That is amazing and fantastic for the earth. Since I only drink coffee I made at home, I would love to know where they sell this cup of coffee for when I am on the road. StarBucks should get themselves on board with this idea to save the earth.

New product. Kind of an old idea. I remember when I was a kid, we always returned our soda bottles to the store where we bought the soda. We would get 2 cents for each bottle we brought back. I am in favor of any type of recycling that will protect the environment. I am not surprised they came up with this idea in California.

That is a good idea ! At least by using these bio degradable materials with seeds embedded in them we can make the World more greener! Now- a - days many such products are available in market! The innovator deserves big salute! Thanks!
