Have you ever bought Steam gift cards?

Postby Fergal » 25 Jul 2017, 18:31

Have you ever bought a Steam gift card to give to someone else?

If so, from which website did you purchase the gift card from?

Were you able to give them the gift card via email?

I ask because I'd like to start offering those gift cards to our members here on ForumCoin.

Nope. I don't ever use steam nor do any of my friends so I didn't find a reason to.

I alredy bought a Google Play card, but just phisical card, it has a code that you put into your app. I have an steam account and alredy bought games via code, I think that the system of credits on steam is just like in google play, you purchase a code with credits and put into account. Would be nice use this system in forum

I request you to elaborate a little more on it. As to what it is, where all it can be used, whether it is accepted in all countries, whether it is recognized by Governments across the world etc, etc.

And last but not the least, is it in anyway associated with steemit.com because there also they talk about something like this.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

Not it is not associated with that, they are gift cards that can be used to purchase items from http://store.steampowered.com/

?Some members have expressed an interest in them before and I would like to consider offering them in exchange for ForumCoin.

They are gift cards that can be used to purchase from Steam, you can only use them for Steam, they are not something you can convert into cash.

Steam? Isn't that a kind of bitcoin currency or wallet? I thought it was only used by gamers.

No, not really. But, I see them here and there on survey sites as a payment method.

It's a site where you can buy games. Steam codes are basically like gift cards / vouchers, that would allow you to buy games from the Steam website.

I used to get steam mixed up with steem (two separate sites). Steam is a popular site for gaming. Many retailers offer steam gift cards. From what I understand they can be gifted. Maybe you can set up a poll here on FC to see how many members are members on steam and how many would like to have a steam card as a reward option? Maybe you can find out if there are any bulk purchase discounts available for the cards?

Usually G2A is the best option for buying games and similar stuff . I bought a game on G2A and everything went pretty fast. I'm not sure if they are selling gift cards though. All I know is that G2A is definitely a good place to buy games considering the price.

Nope (after google how game share works ). Steam have something called family share but if someone is playing a game that is yours , you cant play at the same time. You have the priority so if you want to play the other have to stop playing. I dont know exactly how it works because have never used it but i think is kinda like this.

G2A dont have exactly a good reputation. There was a polemic involving G2A and the developer Gearbox a few months ago.

About the topic, if you make a google search, there are online sites that sell steam gift cards but i dont know if those sites are legit or not ( there are a few oficials i know but they dont have )..and normally they are more expensive that is value ( a bit more ).
https://www.gamesrocket.com i think is a oficial site ( but dont have sure ) and they have steam gift cards ( that cost a little more too ) but i have read some reviews of they asking for ID so i dont know. I bought a game key there once and dont have any problem but i dont know.

If you want to buy in a physical store, here it is some info. Like mladislau said i think is just a card with a number/serial number so...

Surprisingly I haven't. I managed to accumulate at least $120 worth of games just getting games from random giveaways, use IdleMaster to farm cards, then just eventually sell cards to make a couple cents. Then bought some games that give items for playing them, then sold those items for more money. Eventually managed to acquire all the games I ever wanted now. If I ever want to buy something, I'll just do it again.

Hey Fergal, you can buy official steam cards from Paypal:
https://www.paypal-gifts.com/us/brands/ ... -code.html

This way you know it is legal, and coming from a legitimate source.

The domain is paypal-gifts. However, this is an official PayPal website if you do your own research on it :)
