How accurate are targeted ads?

Postby thisnthat » 27 Jul 2017, 14:38

I do see ads that are clearly targeted at things I've searched. What some advertisers don't realize is that not everything I look up is for me. I write, I do paid posting, etc., so a lot of times the things I'm searching have nothing to do with my personal needs or anything I'd be interested in buying. I'm also not the only one that uses my computer.

Google will target ads to you based on what you search for and the content of your email (if you are using Gmail). I suppose they have no way of knowing if what you search for is for yourself or on behalf of someone else, so that could result in some miss targeting. Many people see this type of targeting as an invasion of privacy.

I really hate they that gather info from email. I picked up on that ages ago. I am one of those people who feels this is a huge invasion of privacy.

It feels like having a creeper, except that companies are allowed to get away with it.

Not very... They just go off of your Google search history so they can only be so accurate.
