Do you think Internet banking encourages more expenses?

Postby Heatman » 03 Sep 2017, 20:24

Technology today is seeking to make life easier and more comfortable for the world today but at what cost? Internet banking is one of major upgrade in the world of finance today as it would enable buying and payment of debt Very easy and free with less stress.

Someone can handle over #150,000 Naira online transaction Daily without needing token. But looking at this impressive improvement critically, I would say it causes people to engage in more spending than savings. For example, recharging ones phone and subscribing to Internet data is now very easy through online banking, before to bring out my raw cash to buy airtime to subscribe takes me time to make up my mind but recently with internet banking, I see myself making that expense twice in a month.
What is your opinion on this?

I think anything that makes it more "convenient" to buy or obtain something can be bad. I think you have to approach it in the same way that you would any other way of banking. If you want to save money, then make a plan that works for you and if you find that you are spending more than you want, find a way to stop yourself from doing it. I guess setting parameters for yourself would be one way. Before buying something, ask yourself if you can't live without it or wait longer before getting it. I think it is something that you have to work at and try to be conscious of what you are spending your money on through online banking.

@morgoodie that's exactly my point, as much they are trying to make life easier and more convenient filled with comfort for us, the more it costs us without us knowing the idea behind such agenda. But I think there is nothing one can do about it, as if one says no to such technological improvements, the only option left is to resort to suffering.

I guess it could be dangerous for people who can't control their spending.

I think online banking also has advantages though. You don't get a bunch of paper (and the bank doesn't have to use a bunch of paper or pay someone to send it out). You pay less in fees, which is good.

I think it depends on the individual on how thry spend their money because online banking is very helpful for people who don't want to leave home to go to the bank
