Have you ever wondered how you appear to others online?

Postby sprite1950 » 04 Sep 2017, 09:30

We all have our own personality traits which probably come through in our writing but do you ever wonder how you appear to others online? I think I show the real me but I sometimes have to bite my tongue if I see something I don't like so maybe I don't show people what I'm really like, after all everyone has good and bad points and we might not want to show people our bad side.

To be honest, I don't mind what others will tell me. We all have our perception towards others, and we just know each other virtually. However, I try my best to be a good internet user.

Yes and no. At first I did, but gradually overtime I give out less personal details and have more privacy on my social media. I don't read all the PMs nor do I read all responses to my posts. Some people take to me, and others don't. In the case of the latter it's probably a mutual feeling, but often people do PM me because they like the fact I am honest and don't beat around the bush.

I don't try to pretend to be something I am not, and I see that in many forums and also bloggers who big themselves up. To me that is a turn off, but for some who can't see through things they can get sucked in. I'm in some Facebook groups and when there was a huge fall out with members, people were messaging me asking what was going on as I was the only one brave enough to call out the false accusations as impossible. For that people either liked me or thought I was a troublemaker. The clever ones knew which side to take, and the dumb ones, well let's say they still need to learn actions have consequences.

I don't know how I appear to people online. Some say I am nice, some say I am always on the safe ground, but of course, I am the person who knows myself and I can freely say that I am honest to everything I shared online especially on my site reviews and my blogsites. I always wanted to help and that I think is my purpose. Some people might judge me on the way I act sometimes, but I totally accept that because we do have our different judgement and perception about people.

So you mean to say the image you are using for your username is not the 'real' you?!

It is unwise to even wanting to know how one appears to others online. It is folly also to judge anyone based on what one writes. Someone who we live with for several years is even not understood fully.
If one feels uncomfortable interacting leave that user there and move on.

I think its very important to always stay true to who you are. Whether online or offline. This way, there is no need for pretence or the need to struggle to change to be someone else. Accept yourself but work on changing if you feel a need to.

I don't know as I have really given it much thought. I figure if someone likes what I write or what I have to say about something then that is wonderful, but if they don't then that's okay too. Just like in real life, not everyone is going to like "real" you. I used to care about what people think about me, but I have reached an age that I just don't care. It is especially easy to think that way when talking about the virtual world.

No that is the real me. I don't have anything to hide and although I may not be the most beautiful person on the planet I'm quite happy to put my picture up here. I'm talking about how we seem to other people through our writing.

Don't you ever wonder how you come across to others raaman? ;)

I always try to be myself, no matter if I am online or not but there are some personal things that I prefer to keep for myself. I don't even imagine how I appear to others online, I guess I built a goos image as I never had problems of any kind with people online.

I could easily careless what other think or say about me or my profile or status online. The only thing I take time to do is live my life the way I see fit, as nobody online would add or reduce my personality make from saying a few words about me.

I guess I do wonder sometimes, but I'm really not one to get all upset over other people's opinions of me. I'm pretty straightforward (and opinionated) and some people can't handle that. They don't have to like me. I don't expect everyone to.

I do notice that sometimes when I have a strong opinion, some people get upset about it. I figure they are entitled to their opinion. I don't hold it against them as long as they aren't ugly about it. I still give them good rep if they say something else I agree with, etc. Some people don't return the favor though. Disagree with them once, and you are on their bad list forever.

I think that if someone does not write honestly on the Internet and wants to continue fake himself on writing on forums then he deceives himself mainly.
In any case, the real face of everyone is exposed in certain situations and it can be also online.

:) I smiled when I saw this thread. Honestly, you got me because sometimes I do think of it. Well, it doesn't matter what people think of you. I just have to be myself and do what I'm rightly doing, that's all. :)
