It all began when I gave up my 9 to 5 job to do things which I always wanted to. The first thing I did was to go on a holiday to a foreign land, caught up with friends and relatives by visiting them and calling them over, joined a German language course and last but not the least got into the world of computers.

At that time Windows were not in existence. Nor were computers used by all and sundry and I belonged there. There were computer languages that one had to learn. I started with Basic, Word, Excel and Dbase. I could just about manage to create very simple programmes while some in my family had started business creating software for banks and other establishments. Windows had still not made their appearance. I called it a day – computers did not appeal to me.

And suddenly out of the blue I saw books in book stores and one such book entitled WINDOWS FOR DUMMIES drew my attention. I had a friend who was teaching in an Institute who told me that computers are now user friendly and anyone can work on computers.

I bought myself a desktop and this friend introduced me to Windows. That and with help from Windows for Dummies I learnt the basics and in the process even managed to ruin a couple of hard disks – half GB each. They say failure is the stepping stone to success and these failures made me more cautious. Today I have a memory of 400 GBs safe in my custody.

I spent more and more time dabbling here and there opening up features that Windows offered and was satisfied with my progress. Just then the world of Internet made its presence and here again I moved with the tide just as service providers moved with their tide.

It was not an easy move. There were problems every step of the way. Just as ISPs were making their progress so was Microsoft upgrading their Operating System with jet speed. After several upgrades I have settled down to Windows 7 and am in no hurry to upgrade any further.
With several trial and error methods I can say with confidence I am now computer savvy.I use Word, I can scan and print. I am on several writing sites, I create my own movies, I have my own blog, I have a youtube channel, I have joined several sites that talk of photography as photography is my passion. I also do online shopping which has kind of become an addiction with me. I am also on several social networking sites such as FaceBook, Twitter and LinkedIn. And last but not the least I earn online. I could never have imagined in my wildest dreams that I would earn in dollars.

In this endeavour however what I have sadly slipped into is not being there in my real world as much as I used to before computers came in my world. There used to be phone calls exchanged between family and friends every single day, there were visits exchanged, I entertained a lot, used to help in organising parties and other event plans and all this is history now.

WHAT IS YOUR COMPUTER WORLD STORY?

Nice story, I came into the word of computer while I was still very young in high school, desktops of Pentium series were my first contact in the computer lab, I watch keenly how the booting operation was done, I learnt that and I was always watching attentively whenever I see any body operating computer so as to learn new things. When I got to university I met friends who have computers so most time I have access to their system I quickly practice all I have learnt to ensure they are accurate, I never go to any computer institutions to acquire the knowledge I was always learning from watching people while they operate and also read books. Accessing the internet became the next thing to learn, what i do most times I go to cyber cafe to pick up tickets and spend time to learn new things I have read from books and that is how I learn computer operation

We have the same situation 2 months ago. I was just resigned last July to formally start my career online. I find it very hard at first but recently opportunities come. I now do affiliations with online shops and it really works for me, I'm now earning 35 dollars per day not bad for a beginner like me. You should try to have some research on what you would love to do. Goodluck and stay positive.

Learning basics computer institution is a waste of time and money. It is only if one wants to learn languages and hardware/software tecniques then attending courses is recommended.

To do affiliations don't you need your own website? I am asking because I too am interesting in doing that.
With more and more upgradations computers have become child's play

You must have got in when Microsoft had made strides with their Windows. At what level were they when you walked in?
